Sim Bilal is an seasoned organizer and activist from South Central LA. He was raised by a single mom and is Korean, Black, and Chickasaw. Sim roots his work through his identity, as an anchor and guide for systematic change.
His primary focus has been organizing on the intersection of climate, housing & the environment through a justice lens.
As a youth organizer, his work with Youth Climate Strike Los Angeles (YCSLA) as Co-Director of the organizing saw record youth voter turnout in LA county, and organzied climate actions mobilizing thousands of youth on to the street to call on divestment from fossil fuels and investment into green jobs, infrastructure, and spaces.
As a tenants rights organizer, Sim has supported, low-income BIPOC renters in their fight against landlord harassment, gentrification and and displacement in Los Angeles.
Sim’s passion and love for his community has showed up in his working on banning neighborhood oil drilling, advocating for green spaces, and climate literacy. He is active in his community fighting for the enrichment of other local South LA youth, through supporting elementary, middle, and high schools through mutual aid programs and volunteering as a robotics and coding instructor for the past three years. Sim has been working on integrating tech, activism, organizing, and legislation into addressing the climate crisis in Los Angeles.
