Ivana Munguia was born and raised in South Central, Los Angeles. As a first-generation Latina, Ivana attended the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and received her Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science, and double minored in Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences and Public Affairs in 2022.
During her undergraduate years, Ivana was a member of the Alumni Scholars Club, where she volunteered in all kinds of events, including neighborhood and beach cleanups. She helped make blankets for homeless shelters every year and helped welcome new students at UCLA as part of her volunteer work in the club. She served as a CALPIRG campaign volunteer, where she canvassed around campus and encouraged students to petition for campaigns like ‘Save the Bees’ and committing all UC campuses to use 100% clean and renewable energy. In her last year at UCLA, Ivana conducted research with her practicum team and created an analytic tool to evaluate the cause of PM10 exceedance in Southern CA by extracting and compiling wind speed, wind direction, and historical, and rainfall data using Matlab’s App Designer. The app helps air quality analysts dedicate productivity to events that the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) can regulate.
Ivana Munguia has been involved in the BlueLA project as an Outreach Ambassador, where she conducted outreach to residents and businesses in East Hollywood and increased awareness about BlueLA, an inexpensive and environmentally friendly electric car-sharing service that can help underserved and disadvantaged Angelenos with their everyday needs. Ivana is now T.R.U.S.T. South LA’s Climate Justice Organizer and will support the building of T.R.U.S.T. South LA’s power and influence in our land stewardship, climate justice advocacy, and active transportation work through project campaigns like the South LA Eco Lab project.
In her spare time, Ivana enjoys drawing, rewatching her comfort shows, discovering new music, and learning how to play her electric guitar.
