ORGANIZATION SUMMARY
T.R.U.S.T. South LA is a membership based non-profit community land trust focused on: the production and preservation of affordable housing and the stewardship of community-controlled land; building values-driven community development; building awareness and fostering community leadership on issues of housing, transportation, sustainability and recreation; and creating programs, collaborations and initiatives that build community and economic opportunity for low-income residents within and beyond our project boundaries.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
T.R.U.S.T. South LA’s Communications Manager is a management position, working closely with program staff and reporting directly to the Director of Social Impact & Community Organizing . The Communications Manager will support the mission of T.R.U.S.T. South LA by creating and executing progressive communications campaigns and strategies. The ideal candidate will be a dynamic communicator with a passion for social justice and a proven ability to craft compelling narratives.
The Communications Manager supports T.R.U.S.T. South LA’s programs by co-developing
impactful communications strategies to promote and amplify T.R.U.S.T. South LA’’s programs,
projects, and initiatives through brand development, earned and owned media strategies,
community-centered knowledge sharing and consistent communication strategies.
Furthermore, the Communications Manager will manage T.R.U.S.T. South LA’s social media
presence on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Twitter and LinkedIn, developing strategies to
promote partners, projects, and internal initiatives. They will engage in regular search engine
optimization, digital public relations, and paid and organic social media management.
Summary:
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Annual communications plan: collaboratively working with leadership and integrated goals from the entire programs team and community partners.
- Update and manage brand guidelines for T.R.U.S.T. South LA
- Lead the generation of online and print content, engaging audiences that are both targeted and aligned with the goals of T.R.U.S.T. South LA.
- Engage in designing and implements a metrics plan track online/social media engagements to align input of effort with impact.
- Determine primary audiences and where best to disseminate content
- Manage the development and distribution and maintenance of an ongoing and consistent content calendar for all print and online collateral.
- Work with artistic consultants and staff for design in-house annual reports, and other owned printed and online content with a consistent dissemination calendar.
- Manage the T.R.U.S.T. South LA website, maintaining constant brand.
- Manage earned media content through strategic press releases and targeted relationships with media partners – ranging from journalists to online outlets.
- Create and deploy a plan to center T.R.U.S.T. South LA as a go-to resource to learn about community development and needs for the south LA area.
- Provide training and support to staff and members on communication best practices and tools.
HIGHLY DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of experience in a nonprofit or community minded organization managing and in leadership in communications.
- Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
- An understanding of TRUST South LA and commitment to the mission of the organization, principles, and social & economic justice.
- Familiarity, interest, and / or expertise with community land trusts and/or community organizing.
- Self-motivated, ability to work independently with limited supervision, willing to handle concurrent tasks and make appropriate judgments and decisions.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends to attend and cover community events.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage details and data efficiently and effectively.
- Ability to interact with a diverse set of people from various businesses and backgrounds.
- Computer proficient, including Microsoft Office 365.
- A familiarity with the South LA media landscape as well as California and national media outlets focused on land trusts and community-centered ecological protection and climate change.
- Competent in web applications, including WordPress and Google Analytics. Bilingual English and Spanish, preferred.
SALARY & BENEFITS
The Communications Manager is a full-time, exempt position with full benefits for employees. Salary ranges from $60K-$70k and is based on qualifications and experience. The position will be extended based on fundraising and operating budget capacity.
