Community Development Fellow (Part-time)

ORGANIZATION SUMMARY: T.R.U.S.T. South LA is a membership based non-profit community land trust focused on: the production and preservation of affordable housing and the stewardship of community-controlled land; building values-driven community development; building awareness and fostering community leadership on issues of housing, transportation, sustainability and recreation; and creating programs, collaborations and initiatives that build community and economic opportunity for low-income residents within and beyond our project boundaries. 

What You Will Do:  

As the Community Development Fellow, you will: 

  • Assess listing data from various sources, including from community input, according to placement site impact priorities to develop an acquisition pipeline 
  • Create community assessment tools to support placement site organizing team in incorporating community input into the placement site housing pipeline 
  • Identify potential development partners and work with CLT Dev. & Stewardship team to engage in intro 1-1 meetings with them to explore opportunities 
  • Provide project management support in overseeing small scale construction projects, within the placement site’s existing portfolio, including ADU development 
  • Provide project management support for rehabilitation projects, within the placement site’s existing portfolio, including research on initiatives for increasing energy efficiency and water conservation  
  • Support stewardship staff in collecting documentation needed from residents to maintain affordability, including for property tax welfare exemption and annual income certification 
  • Develop external facing marketing materials of the placement site’s existing portfolio to present to various stakeholders  
  • Research asset management best practices and implement internal systems for internal review of affordable housing portfolio performance 
  • Creating education materials for staff and residents on housing policy preservation strategies to include the CLT model, housing co-ops and Limited Equity Housing Cooperatives (LEHC) and that advance community ownership

What Your Work Environment Will Be: 

This is a 6-month opportunity starting approximately July 16 through December 19, 2025, where you will typically serve 20 hours a week, generally between Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with occasional evenings and weekends. An exact schedule will be determined upon selection. You will report in person at our office and will be required to travel locally for meetings and community events.
