Deshanae Cantley is a born and raised resident of South LA. Amidst the rich tapestry of diverse cultures in Los Angeles, she finds solace and belonging in her hometown. Her passion lies in fostering community engagement, development, and resilience, striving to uplift marginalized voices and empower communities. She has experience as a Lived Experience Community Leader and Advocate, Peer Support Specialist, Home Health Care Aid, and Organizer/Facilitator/Leader in Co-op Development-Tenants Association & Community Ownership. She thrives in cooperative environments where compassion and collaboration reign, working alongside fellow creators and innovators to shape a brighter future.
Her journey began with organizing the 1223 Tenants Association in the Westmont area of South LA in 2021. In 2022, she joined the BVCLT Community Ownership Fellowship, contributing to Measure ULA, a mansion tax initiative aimed at increasing funding for housing programs in Los Angeles. In 2023, she worked closely with T.R.U.S.T South LA, organizing and building community membership.She deeply admires the impactful work of T.R.U.S.T South LA and eagerly looks forward to its continuing growth.

Recognizing the transformative potential of CLTs in fostering equitable access to affordable housing and promoting community ownership, Deshanae works tirelessly to amplify their impact and advocate for their expansion. Her advocacy extends to the forefront of tenant rights, where she champions the rights of renters and fights against injustices in housing.
