Vanessa Guerra (She/They) is a visual Artist from Tongva Land, who resides in Long Beach, CA. Their current work focuses on digital illustrations however, they also like to use video, textiles, and traditional drawing materials as a form of fabrication. Themes occasionally found in Vanessa’s work are identity, nostalgia, and memory, inner child, which are brought to life with the vibrant use of a variety of colors, such as pink, greens, and browns, that can be found in their Mexican indigenous culture. Cartoon-like characters based on themselves and those they encountered are paired with nature to symbolize growth and evolution, and to act as a reminder of the land we come from. They are interested in how memories and identity are woven together, improving accessibility for and representation of womxn, queer, and persons of color. Their process of navigating through their experiences by dealing with anxieties and traumas is also part of the creative process. It is part of healing; a path toward self-love and building community.
