February 2021 Newsletter

T.R.U.S.T. South L.A. honors Black history now and every month.  Black History Month is an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing their central role in U.S. history.  The Black History Month 2021 theme, “Black Family: Representation, Identity and Diversity” explores the African diaspora and the spread of Black families across the United States.

Community Land Trusts and Black History

The first community land trust in the United States was established by a community of African American Civil Rights Leaders in 1969. New Communities Inc., a 5,700 acre land trust and farm collective was created to secure greater economic and political independence for African American farmers and their families during the Southern Civil Rights movement of the 1960s.
