We stand together with our Black Communities

As a community organization based in South Los Angeles, we recognize the inherent racism of the institution of policing and the threat of ever-increasingly militarized police departments pose to communities, particularly to Black and Brown ones. As a community land trust stewarding community-controlled land in Black and Brown neighborhoods, TRUST South LA’s commitment to equity and racial justice, inclusion, and anti-racism are made explicit in our Statement of Principles. Therefore, TRUST South Los Angeles stands in solidarity with the protesters and demonstrations across the city and country demanding justice for George Floyd, Tony McDade, Breonna Taylor and countless other Black individuals murdered by police.
We strongly support the calls for defunding police across the country in order to fund necessary community-centered and community-led public investment in Black communities. You can read more about these demands here.

Como organización comunitaria basada en sur Los Ángeles, reconocemos el racismo inherente a la institución policial y la amenaza que departamentos policiales - cada vez más militarizados - representan para las comunidades, particularmente para comunidades Afro-Americanes y Latines. Como un fideicomiso comunitario que administra tierras controladas por la comunidad en vecindarios Afro-Americanes y Latines, el compromiso de TRUST South LA con la equidad y la justicia racial, la inclusión y el antirracismo se hacen explícitos en nuestra Declaración de Principios. Councilman Curren Price visits T.R.U.S.T. South L.A.

Councilman Price was welcomed by our Executive Director Edgar Campos and the staff of T.R.U.S.T. South L.A.. We want to thank Councilman Price for taking the time to visit us and supporting our cause during this pandemic. We have also been giving out gift cards to help our fellow Angelenos cope in this crisis.

Join our newly-formed Land for the People Taskforce!
Covid-19 has put Black and Brown South Central tenants and small property owners in an even more vulnerable position, but we have the opportunity to organize and demand a Just Recovery, including opportunities for communities to take control of their housing. As part of local and statewide coalitions, TRUST South LA has been working towards policies that advance community-led development, preservation, and racial equity, such as the First Right to Purchase. As part of the Healthy LA coalition, we successfully advocated for LA County to investigate and identify possible acquisition funding for a Tenant and/or Community Opportunity to Purchase Act in Los Angeles. La pandemia de Covid-19 aumenta la vulnerabilidad de inquilin@s y dueñ@s de pequeñas propiedades en South-Central, especialmente nuestros vecin@s Afro-Americanos y Latin@s. Tenemos la oportunidad de organizarse y demandar una Recuperación Justa que incluya oportunidades para que tengamos control comunitario de la vivienda. TRUST South L.A ya hace parte de coaliciones locales y estatales que están avanzando políticas de desarrollo, preservación de vivienda y equidad racial tales como la ley de Primer Derecho de Adquirir vivienda para inquilin@s y fideicomisos. Como parte de la coalición Healthy LA, abogamos con éxito para que el Condado de LA investigue e identifique posibles fondos de adquisición para una Ley de Oportunidad de Compra por Inquilinos y/o la Comunidad en Los Ángeles.
